So I got a pair of Klipsh rp 600ms, first thing I'm doing once my first pay check arrives from my new job, I'm upgrading to 2.1

How should I budget based on the speakers I already have? I was thinking somewhere around the 250-300 usd range, how does that sound? Can I find a good sub at this price?

I think you should aim a bit higher and avoid the need to upgrade sooner than later :) Generally I'd consider $400 with the RSL Speedwoofer 10s as the least expensive generally, but for lower budget I'd look at Dayton SUB1200 and SUB1500 (and think about duals if you can swing it).

250 is pretty slim pickins for a good sub. Is this for movies? Or music? Both? How big is the room, and seating distance?
For that price range, I would look at Daytons sub1200. It’s 150 bucks, and probably the best bang for the buck, and two 300 bucks? Pretty hard to beat.
Costco has some Klipsch subs that were just on sale for like 169. Not much love Klipsch subs around here but I think the Dayton or Klipsch will be more similar than different.
For 500 I’d look at the SVS outlet. The pb1000 is a good choice. It’s kinda their entry level sub. For 750 though, the pc2000 is an even better deal.
It might be best for you to save a couple paychecks and buy once cry once. Then upgraditis will have less of a chance to start nagging at you lol.

SVS is looking pretty picked over already! They moved some product since this morning. That PC2000 for 750 would be pretty nice.

So you know, good bass is what we aim for not just gobs of it. A good sub should produce clean bass effortlessly. I have mine dialed in so they're only noticeable when I turn them off. My subs loaf most of the time, but when I want some solid chest pounding bass at spirited volumes they deliver.

I'll check out some of the options mentioned

Biggest problem I have right now is that I'm actually in a sub optimal room, so I am planning dual subs, but at this point there's no point.

And where I'd be moving to, is still up in the air

Btw it's for music and movies, around 50/50

For a tight budget, I second the Dayton Sub1200. Two of those should take care of you quite well for a little bit. BB in his review indicated he felt the Sub1500 was not really a step up in performance vs cost.
BIC also is looked upon favorably in the budget Sub category.

If you can do it, look at Hsu VTF2 as an very solid option that will take care of you for a good while to come!
