sub and passive radiator help

i know that for home theater use, you generally need at least a 10in sub to get deacent bass, 12" or 15" is even better. however, i have an 8in woofer, with a relatively high x-max(.39in), fs of 33.1hz, vas .79 cu ft, and 125w rms power handeling. what would be the best set up for this in a home theatre system? would a properly designed box with a passive radiator provide enough bass in an average sized living room? i haven't found much about passive radiators and was wondering if the 8in sub, when combined with a passive radiator, would be a better choice than trying for a ported enclosure with the same driver??

thanks for the help

I'm not really sure if I can answer your question but I can clarify one point. You don't necessarily need a larger driver to get louder bass or lower frequencies. I don't have any driver's larger than 8" in my setup and it has more bass than many 12"-15" subwoofers. In fact before I got my current speaker's I had Cerwin Vega front speakers with a 15" woofer in each tower along with a Paradigm 12" sub. I get more bass now than I ever got before and it is also far more accurate than before so the size of the driver's are not always proportional with more bass. More driver's can have the same impact as a larger driver if implemented well.

i think i'm gonna try and keep the 8in sub and set it up with a passive radiator and see what happens, the radiator is only $15 : )

You will want to design a new enclosure and find out the proper damping necessary for the radiator itself. Your radiator should be larger than the actual woofer, at least from the little I have read up on them. 8" sub 10" radiator. 10" sub 12" radiator, you get the picture. I admit I have not done a ton of research on them. Just bits and pieces I remember.
