I have a Linear Power 2202 amp that will drive those subs well. I also have an Audio Control Epicenter that will increase the effect of the bass.

OK. I found the subs on the Alpine site. I would not worry too much about the power rating on those subs. They can handle as much power as you can afford. But, you need to be sure not to kill the the electrical system on your car.

Yes. You need an amp. What kind of receiver are you using?

ok cool, but now what about the amps? do i need am amp higher than the 300rms? im looking into buying 2 MTX Thunder421D amps. one for each sub. and at 4ohm they are running 210RMS. is that going to be plenty? i dont want it to hit weak. im trying to learn this power stuff for myself.

Those amps will work fine. Tell me the model & give me a minute to research to see how much power you can get out of them. OOPS! Give me a minute.

Ok... RMS power means root mean square, or in plain english, the amount of constant power your speakers can handle for normal playing... sometimes in music there are louder bursts, and most of the time the max power ratings are meant to be the amount of power a sub can handle for 2 seconds or less. So getting 2 mtx amps pushing 210 watts RMS at four ohms would be kind of a waste.... You could just get one, and wire your subs in parallell to the amp, resulting in a 2 ohm load. at a 2 ohm load, that amp should be pusing about 400 watts, which split into the 2 subs you would get 200 watts per sub. For the Type R alpines, assuming that they are single 4 ohm subs and NOT Dual Voice coil subs, I would put a bigger mono amp on the two than that.... don't go out and get 2 mono amps. You would be better off getting 2 two-channel amps, becuase a 2 channel amp would do better into a 4 ohm load. OR get a big frikkin 4 channel amp, bridge the channels down from four to two channels, and run your subs off that.... Basically, I think the best bang for your buck solution is going to be a mono amp that runs 800 watts into 2 ohms... if you go to a circuit city and check out the MTX MXA 8001, that would pound those subs. But, get at least a 1 farad capacitor to buffer the draw off your battery. If your headlights dim everytime your subs hit, it looks stupid.... but think of what happens to your spark in the combustion chamber, too......

Alpine Type R subwoofers are dual voice coil only. Keeping that in mind I would assume they are 4 ohm dual voice coils. That being the case, you are going to want a big two channel amplifier bridged to 4 ohms (using a series parallel configuration, each woofer's voice coils in series, both woofers in parallel) if you would like to run one amp. Or you would need a mono amplifier capable of running at 1 ohm (using a parallel parallel configuration, voice coils in parallel, woofers in parallel). When using a single amplifier, one would also like an amplifier capable of about 600-800 watts of CONTINUOUS or RMS power. (JBL GTO601.1)

If using two mono amplifiers, look for two amplifiers capable or 300-400 watts CONTINUOUS or RMS at 2 ohms. (JBL GTO301.1, JL Audio e1400d)
