Sub advice? Newbie

Hey all,
I'm new to this forum and this is my first post. I'm really in need of some subwoofer advice for my setup. I've read a number of posts here, and everyone recommends the HSU very highly. Any other recommendations?

I'd prefer to spend ~$500 or less, though that is fairly flexible. Looking for the most bang for the buck, obviously, and the right fit for my current setup. I don't plan on upgrading anything anytime soon so I'll need to live with this for a while. I use my setup mostly for music, with movies being the secondary application. I prefer a bit more punch in the low frequencies than most, or as my girlfriend puts it, I like "to feel the guns". I'll typically turn up the gain get the added bass.

Need to know how big your room is. First thought would be the SVS PB-10 or if you don't mind a cylinder, the 25-31PCi. Then there is also the HSU VTF-2 Mk3.

Right. Sorry, I forgot about the room size. It is an awkward size room. 11x16. 8ft ceilings. But it is also open to my kitchen for 8ft on one side and a hallway 4-6ft on the other. There's also a stairway off the room. It isn't ideal as it is pretty open.

I had looked at the outlaw audio lfm-2 as an option, but haven't done much research on that one yet. Anyone have any personal experience with that one? How about Outlaw vs Hsu?

I use mine for both music and H/T and find it excellent for both. However, many feel that, for music, the Hsu's usually win by a nose. I've never auditioned a Hsu, but researched them and SVS heavily when I was looking. Both are quality manufacturers.

I've owned both SVS and HSU subs and I would tend to agree that the HSUs could edge out some of the SVSs for music, but you will hardly be disappointed with either of them.

Very happy with my HSU 2.3 sub. I have it in a 12 x 15' room with one side opening up to another 8 aby 10' room. Eight foot ceiling.

I just received my Outlaw + sub yesterday and OMG what a large improvemant over my boston sub. My wife was even impressed by the dynamics and raw guts of this thing. I have a 25x15x10 room with an open kitchen and hallway, it filled the room with ground shaking, wall vibrating and chest pounding bass. I haven't fully set it up yet but if this is any indication of what I've got to look forward to I'm very happy. Give the plus a try, I'm sure you won't be dissapointed. Good luck.

Glad you are happy with it. After you've had it for a bit and have calibrated it, and played some demanding stuff on it, let us know how you like it.
