In Q1 2005, Syntax Groups will introduce the second member of its mass-produced Olevia LCOS TV line, a 63-inch model with true 1080P images and 1500:1 contrast ratio, end-used priced below $5,000. Intel has yet to capitalize on its promise of sub-$2000 LCOS displays by year's end, but Olevia seems to be taking the lead in bringin down the pricing for both flat panel as well as LCOS displays.

It's about time!

I have been searching and searching for some LCoS TVs and I think this one will be just the start of things to come. I'm hoping to get one for my new house I'm building(included in the mortgage lol) My living room is about 12 foot wide so im looking at a 43-50 inch range don't you think? I was tempted to do the projector screen idea but there is no room for seating. I wish I could show somebody here my blueprint of the living room so i can get some good ideas.

Here's my 2 cents... I have been monitoring the TV battle for a few months now, and also in the market to buying one. You are right in guessing that the price and tech battle is not yet started between LCoS and DLP guys until the end of this year or start of next year. I would wait if I were you till the end of the year, and that is if you can wait that long! You can get some real good TVs for pretty decent price by then. LCoS and JVC's D-ILA tech seem like killer techs to me. For the TV size you want check out JVC's recently released D-ILA TV. It's absolutely stunning! Go check their website. You can get it online for half the price they advertize it for.

I would love to have a projector too, but if you are planning to have it in a living room where you are bound to have some light stream in then TV is the way to go. Colors bleed from projectors when there is light in the room even if you have high lumens projectors like you find today... and I think thats what the projectors manf are trying to work on among other things on how to make it a real competition to TVs. It will get there eventually. If you are planning for a basement setup and you can get total darkness then projector is the way to go...ofcourse, the good ones are still expensive! Now you know why I wish I had a basement!

Wow! that JVC DILA TV is awesome. I just have question about it. What's the contrast ratio for it? I looked all over the description and features for it.

Now I wish i would have thought about the basement idea. It;s too late now. we built a crawlspace instead.....stupid stupid.... oh well

You know what...I checked everywhere for it and couldn't find the contrast info either. Shoot an email to JVC or call them for info. I'm sure they can give you that. I wonder why they didn't mention that in the specs in the first place...strange. A friend of mine just ordered for that TV. I haven't read a bad review on that unit as yet.

I guess I will just have to add-on another room with no windows just to meet my demands of the perfect setup! yeah, in like 5 years maybe. need to move in first!

The response will be useless. Everyone uses different equipemnt to measure and different criteria. Even when they say full on/off it's different. Let's put it this way - a good CRT television that people try to compare with as a great source for black levels, etc - has a measured contrast ratio of 300:1! Now compare that to projectors and other televisions that claim ratios of 3000:1 or 5000:1 - it's utter nonsense.

This is primarily why we are getting into doing more and more display reviews - there's no standard out there.

1080p is the way to go, IMO. I've been following display technology much more closely than audio technology (blasphemus?) in the last few years and like most of you, I've been waiting for the sub-2K LCoS we've been promised before striking, but with the Star Wars DVD and Halo 2 soon to be released, I'm not sure how much longer I can wait.
