Stupid question of the day.

I hooked up my new ATI 2000 amp today. Until I get my preamp for it I am using my Marantz PM8004 integrated amp as the pre. I have the amp hooked up with the pre out. Since this unit only has one pre out and I do not have an RCA splitter, is there other way to hook up my sub.. Wasn't sure how I could do a speaker level connection? Any thoughts?
This is all temporary.

Without high-level inputs, RCA splitter is the only choice.
They are not expensive:

So how is the ATI driving your Sierra2's?

- Rich
LOUD!!! Ha Ha... Before the volume was always up around 12 o clock... With he ATI. I haven't had it higher than 9:00 and it's loud. And this is without the sub running... BIG American Power AMP.... I think it's going to be nice when I am done with it all.

You can't beat an well/overbuilt amplifier. Watt ratings alone do not tell the whole story.

You are not alone. :p :D

Sorry, but I believe the ATI just seems louder because using the RCA inputs the amp's gain is 34db, which is pretty high.

Yes. 34db... But 70WPC vs 200WPC. That will give some headroom.

Yes, considerable headroom, but I think it would be difficult to hear with your speakers. The Ascend Sierra 2 is rated at about 87db/2.83v/meter, and that'll be about 1W or so. 70W would get you to about 105db at 1 meter, which is loud. The ATI will be worth another 4-5db, but are you really going to listen that loudly?

Sure. Keeps me from hearing my wife telling me to turn it down.:D

I may end up getting some towers in the future. I love these Sierra's, but Towers are calling me too.

By the way... I would need two of these correct? 2 into 4 if you will.
If this is your sub:

Rythmik Audio 12" servo subwoofer • Features

You should not need any splitters as it has in and out RCA jacks. If you have long enough cables, send the RCA out from the Marantz to the Sub then out to your amp.

You did not like the Emotiva preamp and amp, but, for future reference, it would have made sense to have tried your Emotiva amp in this configuration before sending it back.

FYI, the Rythmik also offers high passed outputs (80Hz fixed XO), so you don't actually have to split the signal. You can run cables from the Pre to the sub, and then from the sub to the amp. At that point, you'll want to fiddle with the XO knob (adjusts the low pass side of the equation) and phase/delay for best results.

No, we really wanted him to buy either ATI or Parasound. :D

As far as "making sense", it would also make sense just to buy an AVR and not even buy an amp.

But that didn't stop 99% of us from buying amps, did it? :D

It's a hobby. We do things because it makes us feel good. ;)

And buying a new high-end amp sure makes us feel really good. :)

Interesting.
So someone with a two channel rig, like a DAC/Preamp without bass management, could perform that function with a Rythmic sub.

I don't see a line out on my sub. I think that's an option to daisy chain with XLR only.. Maybe I am missing something here.

Guess I just need to wait until the new Preamp hits in about two weeks. :D

Okay for short term. But for long term, especially for guys who want the "shortest path" and buy high-end amps and pre-pros, do they really want a sub to be doing all that? :D

Most of us just want that sub to do one thing only - and that is to produce tight punchy bass. Not take in the main front Left and Right channel signals and reroute the signals to the amp. :D

I mean how "clean" are those cheap electronics on the subs? :D

Correct. One of the potential "down the road" ideas for my 2 channel setup is adding a SVS SB13U to the mix. It takes things a step further in that it adds adjustable high AND low pass filters (for frequency and slope), so you get a lot more flexibility in that respect.
