Stupid question about speaker angles

I'm unfortunately in a square room (12'4"x12'6") but until my roommate moves out i'm stuck there so i'd like to make the best of what I have and set up my speakers as well as possible. So my question is how do you measure the speaker angle?

The documentation that came with my unit suggests the front speakers be 22-30 degrees with the rears being somewhere between 90 and 110.

I understand the idea but am at a loss when it comes to how I'm supposed to achieve the end result.

Do people just guesstimate or is there a way of measuring the specific angle?

I think most of us guesstimate.

If you listen to much 2 channel, especially critically, the front left and right should be further apart than 60 degrees. That will depend on your setup because you also want them as far from side walls as possible.

We all have imperfect rooms and short of learning a lot about acoustics, trial and error is usually the way to go. I'd suggest starting with getting the front left and right speakers in the best spot using music that you like. Presumably there is only one spot for the center channel so that just leaves the surrounds. If you are using regular monitor type speakers, the best spot is probably just behind but angled toward the listening position. Mine are at ear height and aimed toward my shoulders. Higher is better for movies, ear height is better for surround music.

Get a protractor. Otherwise, use trigonometry.

Yeah, I use a tape measure and use the distances to calculate angles. I've got my mains at 30 degrees and my surrounds at roughly 110 degrees. This is for two-channel music, multi-channel music, and movies, and to my ears it sounds great.

You don't need to calculate anything. Use your ears. When they are aimed correctly, you will be able to hear it.

i, basicly, aim the lefts speakers at my left ear. and the right speakers at my right ear. and have them an equal distance for the pair sets.
