Studio Monitors? vs. axiom/x-ls

I have been posting in a different section, in this thread to get advice on what to buy for my new home studio. They will be used about equally for making electronic music and listening to all kinds of music. As you can see, I had pretty much decided to go with one of those choices, probably the x series all around. Then a couple of my friends, who already have the type of home studio that I want, told me that I should get dedicated studio monitors, and they both suggested these active monitors, along with a sub in the same series. I have heard the speakers and sub at my friend's house and they sound great. He has the 5inch ones, and I would probably get the 6 inchers because of the extra power. I understand that they are designed to be flat, and that is what makes them studio monitors, but I thought that the x series speakers were all designed to be pretty flat also. Does anyone know of any reason for me to pick one over the other of these two types of speaker? I havent seen a single thread on here that refers to studio monitors, and I havent seen studio monitors available on most of the websites that sell HT speakers, or vice-versa. It seems like there are two separate audio worlds.
