I have purchased a Sling Catcher from sling media and have it interfaced with my computer via Ethernet connection. This device has 1 USB input as well as HDMI, Digital audio, S-video, and analog audio video outputs. This unit is easily integrated to newer high end AV receivers as well as old style AV receivers. It seems to operate flawlessly of streamlining audio and video, including Blue Ray, from my computer. This unit is priced under $200.00, and seems to be an affordable alternative. There is also a wireless Ethernet adapter available to address hard wiring concerns.

Format support through PC isn't bad. It's a good unit. Enjoy.

That looks like a useful device. To watch video on my computer, as I understand it, I would not need a Slingbox. I would make a USB connection to Sling Catcher and download Sling Projector utility. Is that correct?

USB would be for locally attached storage. For PC videos, you can use the network connection built into the Sling Catcher and use Sling Projector. Check the list of supported formats to see if this is what you'd want.
