Strange subwoofer behavior

I have a Jamo DSub6 in my family room - have had it for ~ 7 years with no issues. Not a phenomenal sub, but not awful either, so I'm ideally not looking to replace it right now. However, a couple of weeks ago we were sleeping and I woke up to this incredibly loud humming noise around 2am. Ran downstairs to find it was coming from the sub, which was odd because the AVR was off and the sub is set to turn off when there is no audio signal being sent. I turned the sub off, went back to bed and forgot about it until a few days later when I turned it back on. No issues until last night when almost the exact same thing happened - watched tv fine all night (was watching the WS game, so not sure if it had much signal sent to the sub) and then heard that noise around 1am again. For now, I have turned the sub off and am leaving it that way.

Question - anyone have any idea what could be happening here? Is there a chance this could be some sort of setting on the subwoofer or weird signal being sent from the AVR (even when turned off in standby mode)? Obviously I'm just hoping for an easy solution rather than having to get the thing fixed but hoping somebody has an idea.

Thanks

The capacitors in your amp are failing. I would replace the sub it is a potential fire risk.

Anything is repairable and we really cannot diagnose anything from this distance. Hell, we're not even technicians.

But, J is right. It could be a fire hazard. Unplug it when it's not in use and you might want to contact Jamo to see what a repair would cost.

It is possible that it is repairable depending on how bad it is, however most shops and vendors will opt to simply replace the whole amp. The caps tend to leak and damage other things, so replacing them may be the only thing needed.
