Will be hitting the road this summer satrting May 17th at Columbus Crew Stadium, singer Weiland has hinted that a new album with the possibility of an indie release a la Radiohead is coming down the pike, no date given for that. I don't know where this leaves Velvet Revolver since they booted Weiland off the roster, citing artistic and personal differences.

That's the PC way of saying: "We didn't want to stick around for the next Heroin episode".:)

I kinda liked Revolver. But recently developed more of an appriciation for STP. I'd like to see another studio release.

Actually, I heard an interview with Slash and Duff who basically said he was still having substance issues and that they more or less agreed to part ways because it was causing problems. Unfortunately, I have low hopes for a long lasting collaboration with a reformed STP unless they can get Wieland truly clean.

It really is sad. He is a great talent. After hearing a couple of the Revolver singles I revisited the STP stuff and realized what an over looked vocalist he is.

I seriously doubt, after all this time and incidents, that any one is going to be able to get him on the right track.

Too bad.

STP was one of the bands that 'saved' music for me. The 80s were bad, but more so I was looking for music in all the wrong places (radio, record stores). They were in my top 5 maybe 10 years ago or so, even the last CD was a beaut. I don't spin them that much any more. I don't even have a top 5 anymore. I started going to outdoor concert festivals some time ago. Ones where you camp, ala Bonarroo (except that one tends a little too commercial for my tastes but it certainly has about it all). I am more to the liking of Allgood Music Fest, Sunshine Daydream or even as big as Wakaroosa.

Seeing 'jam bands' at venues like this changed my life. It really did, it literally changed the entire way at look at music, art, life and spirit. If you keep going to nothing but stadium rock shows you will never know. I urge anyone to give it a shot. Imagine one your favorite bands playing until the sun rises whist you sit on a grassy hill after a night of fireworks and amazing light show. Such a spectacle that makes even killer acts seem lame in indoor venues. Make sure you know what you are doing relative to the camping aspect to keep it comfortable.

Maybe I'm just a sucker for post-grunge, but STP are one of my favorite all-time bands. They had so many hit singles.

Core is still my favorite and Purple is a close second. The others all have good tracks, but I never picked all of them up. They are a good band when Weiland isn't trying to numb that stuff that makes him such a great artist.

What amazed me about STP is that they're albums are so different. You can definitely hear a progression in their work from one album to another. However, I still like their sound despite the slight differences.

Scott is probably one of the best, modern day rock frontmen and it's a shame he can't keep his head on straight. He said that his marriage(?) and new child changed his perspective but who knows how hard it is to shake that monkey.

I bought tickets on Sunday for the July 25 show at the Greek Theater at UC Berkeley, great venue by the way.

Great band, but like I told the wife, I think the odds are about 50-50 that Scott will be in Jail or rehab by the time the date rolls around.
