Stereo for Mac Mini

Ripping all of my music onto my mac mini, which I intend to use for my music center. I'm looking for convenience, but I want to play through nice book shelf speakers.

What are some common configurations/setups for playing from my computer through components? Are there some models that are specifically designed for all digital to digital?

Need some basic advice - not sure where to start. Thanks

I don't think you'll coax a digital signal out of an IPOD. So your best bet would be to purchase one of those firewire adapters that have the firewire connection on one end, and a mini stereo plug line out on the other end. Then hook that line out to a splitter, and connect the splitter to the line in on your receiver.

The mac mini is a full scale mac with a G4 chipset. What I'm getting at is this: once I output from the PC, am I looking at standard components to drive this, just like the old days when it was a CD player??

Oops, I thought it is an ipod mini. The Mac mini should have an optical out built into the computer. If that is the case, then you simply hook the optical out to your receiver's optical in. That should be it.

Is the Mac going into your main system, or are you just looking for some nice speakers to sit on the desk?

Option 1: You can go direct: line out -> RCA Adapter -> Stereo
Price: About $10

Option 2: Airport Extreme -> Squeezebox -> Stereo via Digital.
Price: $260 (assuming you have wireless in your mini)

Option 3: Airport Extreme -> Airport Express -> Stereo.
Price: $130 (assuming you have wireless in your mini)

Option 2 is all digital.
Option 3 you must use iTunes.
