Stay away from Jon Alexander Furniture...

I thought I had finally found the TV/audio stand I was looking for. Jon Alexander Furniture, www.jonalexander.com, also titled Progressive Structures, makes some very pretty looking stands and shelf units out of steel and glass. I settled on one of their Diamond Collection models and ordered it, with a few customizations.

I received the unit yesterday afternoon and I must say that I am quite disappointed with the quality of this. Let me list my "beefs":

1) Some of the black paint on the steel was still wet when I pulled it out of the package.

2) Scratches in the paint were touched up with a black magic marker.

3) Threaded studs that were permanently mounted in the feet are way too long to allow proper tightening of the shelves.

4) According to his website, the glass is tempered, however, two of the shelves have chips on the edges. You can't chip tempered glass because it would just shatter. Obviously, his claims are false.

5) The top frame structure, which consists of two bars that cross over each other in an 'X' configuration, are in absolutely no way mounted to anything. They are completely free standing and just about fall over on themselves. And this is supposed to support a 500 lb TV? Yea right. The notches in the steel tubes look like they were cut out with a torch.

Needless to say, I'm rather upset that I paid good money for this thing and it quality looks like he built it in his backyard. I'm in the process of trying to get in contact with him to request a full refund, which shouldn't be a problem I hope since he claims a full 30 day money back guarantee on his site. I'm also going to insist that he pay for return shipping. 200 lbs of glass and steel isn't cheap to ship.

Edit: I just remembered something else that is wrong with it: 6) The crossover bars on the top which form the 'X' are bent.

Hope you'll get your money back and next time buy from well known seller. Good luck.

Publicity, either good or bad, can make or break a business.

If you don't get satisfaction, you might email a link to this thread to "support@jonalexander.com". Do this on and for all forums you frequent.

But, by doing so, you also incur the moral (and perhaps legal?) responsibility of posting on all these sites the resolution to the problem, either good or bad.
