Hi,

I just finish hooking up my new system 2 weeks ago. I am getting static on the right channel occasionally. I am not sure what the issue is. The static becomes noticeable during the conversation segment of a movie. Any help would greatly appreciated.

We need more details. You need to isolate it to a channel. and to which piece of equipment is making the noise.

Sorry for not being clear. It was the front right channel. I'll do the following testing tonight:
- Switching the front left to the front right
- Check the connection

Thanks.

This is my testing so far and hopefully it is sufficient.

I put on local news and have the TiVo output through the Reciever (Onkyo SR 707). When I am about 1 ft in front of the speaker (right channel), I can hear the hiss sound. On the other hand, I have to put my ear really close to the speaker on the left channel in order to hear the hiss sound.

In narrowing down the problem, I swapped the input. Right to Left and Left to Right. After the swap, the issue described above is reversed which I believe should elimiate the problem with the connection and the speaker.

My conclusion: The receiver produces a louder hiss sound on the right than the left.

Any thoughts or suggestions on how to get around is greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

It seems your receiver is most likely faulty and needs service. Does this occur with all sources? You only mention the Tivo and may be that has the noisy circuit. If it just does it on Tivo, then the Tivo is faulty, if all sources then the receiver.

It's not just from Tivo. I am getting it from PS3 as well when playing a movie. However, I don't get it all the time. It is intermittent for both sources (Tivo and PS3). There are times the hiss sound is stronger than other that it almost sounds like a static. Earlier this evening during my testing, I popped in a blue-ray movie watched it for about 30 mins without noticing any hiss sound. Then it appears and went away. I rewind to the part where I initially heard the hiss sound but couldnt' reproduce it.

Also, I just now noticed that when changing the source that has sound, the front right channel produces the sound (1/2 second pooh sound) while the others do not. I thought it was normal but now I listen more carefully, only the right channle produces the sound. It's very strange.

Thanks.

That is a classic symptom of a failing semiconductor device or failing capacitor, sometimes a noisy resistor.

If that is a new unit it needs to go in for warranty service pronto, if it is out of warrant, the you will have to foot the bill. This is not something you can fix yourself.

TLS,

The problem is the receiver right? Just want to make sure.

Thanks.

I received my replacement today as expected and it is working great so far. The receiver has been on for a little over 2 hours now and still no noticeble static. Also, when switching between source, I don't hear any pooofff sound from any of the channels. Will continue keeping a close ear on it.
