Starting company to rent out SPEAKERS for Clubs/Parties/Events. Definitely Need Help!

Hey there !

I have a general idea about speakers and specs - however, most reviews I read online are biased or just don't review big speakers suitable for events.

What I'm looking for is 8 sets of speakers. Don't all need to be the same. Each set can include 1 or 2 speakers along with the power.

The speakers will be used outdoors and indoors. Clubs, outdoor/indoor parties, small to medium venue concerts and birthdays..etc

I want something powerful but not very expensive (a bit expensive works as I'm not going to be cheap in my business).

Please drop your recommendations. (preferably with links)

Would really appreciate it fellow AudioHolics :)

Thanks

These or find some used Klipsch heritage speakers, like Cornwalls, etc. If you can find some Bose 802's with the Eq box included, don't hesitate to pick those up either.

It's been a long time since I've done any DJ type stuff but I had good results with these products "back in the day".

I must also say the Peavey's I've heard were much better than I expected. TLS Guy doesn't like Peavey, but my ears find them to sound nice.

I think many folks of my generation have been broken into the Peavey sound.

However these are widely recommended in my research.

Where are you? Any info we give may not apply if you're in a place where you can't buy or see what is available.

Go to some shows and notice what they use. Not just the speakers, either. The whole system. If you want your speakers to survive the gig, you need to specify how they're to be used. Someone who wants to have a party and hooks up the receiver owned by their "friend who knows about this stuff" so they can crank the boogers out of it, you're going to be repairing your speakers and they won't want to pay you after they blow up (low power does bad things to good speakers).

You'll need a contract that states what will happen if the equipment is damaged when used improperly- abuse isn't covered by any warranty. Some cash and a handshake doesn't cut it. Both parties have legal obligations when equipment is rented and you need to know these.

If you want to do actual concerts and outdoor live music gigs, you need to learn as much as possible about system design, not just "I have a general idea about speakers and specs - however, most reviews I read online are biased or just don't review big speakers suitable for events.

Online consumer forums are the wrong place to go for info on pro gear unless people who actually use it are members (like here). Consumer grade speakers aren't made for commercial use. Look for some of the live sound trade magazines if you want more info about doing live sound.

If you have the funds. JTR makes some very sick stuff though. :)

For a decent starting point, check out these or or these.

We've used these for our church functions at various locations for years and they do well for what they are stated to do.

Since these are self-contained systems, they should be pretty much idiot proof. Note I said "pretty much". I suggest one of your people do the set-up and tear-down unless you're really, really sure the customer knows what they're doing.

Have insurance and have a lawyer draw up the rental contracts. Heaven forbid a speaker should fall on some poor bastich.

If what you want is beyond these, sub-contract a pro to design a system for you.

Budget is still not final but it will be in the 50-80,000$ range for all sets. As for venues - not very big ones since I know that if the size of the venue gets bigger and bigger then I would need acoustic engineers, heavy duty arrays..etc .. So medium to small venues in a classification that I see as

Small
Medium

Large
Huge

I'm located in Dubai. The concerts and gigs I'm going to be performing are small to medium sized concerts for local talents. Don't worry about the legal side I know how to protect my company's well being pretty well. What I was looking for were suggestions of speakers and whatnot for me to study them and read up on them - I wasn't suggesting for someone to give me the final set with everything plus a cherry on top.

Funds can be secured - can you give me some links of what you think is best?

I know you could ship just about anything in, but what brands are easy to find there? Have you heard of Ecler? They make several systems that are expandable. They sell mostly DJ equipment here in the US but I found out about them because I know the head if the US operation.

Here's a link:

Rental speakers

Yup, Walter and Highfigh nailed it....you need DJ-Pro type units or they will be a mess after a few rentals....thats why local bands use them too as constant transporting takes a toll also....

You're into pro audio. Put durability and robustness above audio quality. Nobody is going to come back to you and say they did not like the quality of sound. Parties and events want clear and loud sound, so high SPL is a must.

When the gear comes back you want to be sure you can turn it around to the next customer without having to repair it. That should be your biggest concern.

I would probably look at JBL pro line or Peavey as a good starting point. Consider used gear. If you get new gear, make sure you bang it up after you buy it. No one will take you too seriously if all your gear looks brand new. You want to look like you have been around the block.

Remember, this is a business. Don't fall in love with your equipment. Your first order of business is to maximize profit.

Also, check out what your competition uses and how they do business.
