Standby or turned off?

I just bought a Belkin power strip:
http://catalog.belkin.com/IWCatProductPage.process?Product_Id=459507

I can now fully turn off with a remote the preamp, XDA, XDW (the subs), etc and keep on only the Direct TV receiver. That should save the standby energy; I am just trying to do my share.
The question here is - is it better to just leave the electronics and the sub in standby or is the same if I turn them off?
When I turn the subs off there is a bit of noise - doesn't sound bad. Also the amp when ot shuts down makes a bit of "thump" noise. I hope is normal.
I just don't want to damage my electronics/subs...
What do you think?

I vote for shutting them down as you mentioned, and Not using stand-by.
That's what I do.

Seriously, I have no life.
I shut everything off as well. Easy with a wall switch controlling the outlet.

Well I guess I can do it for tv/avr/dvd/htpc, but the damned cablevision SA HD DVDR take about 20 mins to boot (literally)

My DIrectTV setup box takes forever to start up after a complete shutdown (as opposed to standby) - that's the reason I am willing to let it standby - all the others will be shut down.
I love this RF controlled power strip from Belkin.

Standby modes are most used on computers, to save energy (specially on laptops) I wont suggest using standby on your audio system.
