I have a question about ventilation of my reciever, do to my upgrading i need to move some things around and was wondering if i put my dvd on top of my onkyo reciever i would have about 1/2" clearance, would this be enough ventilation ?

Heat is the biggest enemy of audio components and receivers/amplifiers generate the most heat of all. By placing another component on top of the receiver, you increase the heat buildup in the receiver and, in theory, shorten the life of the unit.

In short, it'll work, but for how long is the question.

I leave at least 100mm of space above my amp. I used to not worry about it but I was always having trouble with it overheating and shutting of.

Why not stack your receiver on top of your dvd?

Actually, this was my solution it may appear a bit strange looking but it's better that overheating your receiver. If your receiver is deeper than the DVD player the simple thing to do would be to cut some wood blocks to match up the height in the back.

most of the time, dvd players are smaller in footprint than receivers (and the players look too flimsy to be able to hold lbs upon lbs of receiver or amp)

in my case (player over amp), I put in aluminum tubular feet (four corners) to encourage air circulation front to back and left to right. tubular feet so even the heat conduction between the amp/receiver below through the feet can easily be dissipated too.

4" space is indeed ideal, but maybe you can get away with a smaller space if you put in silent PC fans.

I stack the receiver on top of my DVD. My receiver puts out enough heat to bake pizzas!

Onkyo receivers aren't the most efficient, meaning lots of heat. I had to put a fan on mine to get it to do what I wanted it to do.

Maybe you should get a bigger entertainment center and be safe.
