I'm making a quantum leap upgrade in my av system this year (receiver, tv, disc player) and am excited to have found your web site! It is a quantum leap, replacing a Sony ProLogic receiver (!), but hey, I will be plugging them into B&W Matrix 805s and DM601S3s!
Anyway, I used to have a Marantz CD player before I switched to a DVD player, and I was impressed with the quality and sound. So, naturally, I've started to look at Marantz's new full featured receiver, SR7005.
Based on reviews, I'd pull the trigger without learning all the ins and outs of the processing features (something I don't know much about), but I saw one show stopper for me: the dual HDMI output is not parallel, but only one HDMI output is active at a time.
I need the ability to send the same video signal (usually my TiVo Series3) to my master bedroom. I currently do this today using an agile modulator feeding coax from my family room to master bedroom. IR distribution back to the family room allows me to control the gear from there.
What I'd like to do is this: run my TiVo Series 3 and Oppo disc player to the receiver, then run one HDMI output to a TV and the other to another room via an HDMI over coax repeater.
If the SR7005 only powers one HDMI output at a time, it means I'll have to switch the receiver's HDMI output every night when I go to bed. Not impossible, but inconvenient, and a show stopper.
Do you think this is software controlled, and therefore, a potential upgrade?
I really like what I see in the SR7005 reviews, and despite the weak test numbers, the styling and build quality look great, too. I'm afraid I won't be able to get dual HDMIs out of this unit, so what are the best alternates?
Yamaha RX-A2000, Integra 80.2, Denon AVR-4810CI / AVR-4311CI? (price range is $1-3k)
I really like the HDMI switching and output available in the Yamaha, but am concerned about the ease of use on that brand.
(btw, I use a powered zone 2 output from the receiver to power speakers in master bathroom. a little shower entertainment...
