Hi Everyone,

I apologize if this was already discussed although I did search and couldn't find anything about the issue I have. I got a Marantz receiver sr5008 about three and a half years ago and it worked perfectly until recently, when it started to emit a very annoying noise. It happens when I am watching Netflix or Amazon streaming through a PS3. I found that someone posted a youtube video that accurately represents the problem I have
. I contacted Marantz support and the referred to a discussion of noises due to poor grounding on this site. However, after reading through it I don't think this is the problem because all connections seems in order and the problem started recently. the Marantz support suggested to send it for repair, but I am a little worried that the noise takes awhile to appear and sometimes does not appear at all.

I browsed other and someone mention that the HDMI Board for this unit tends to go bad. I wonder if this is the case with mine

Any advice and help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Dimiter

It is not a ground loop and sounds like digital noise. Where it originates is hard to say. It could be the HDMI board or the DAC. I suspect the latter more likely. I agree the unit needs sending in for repair

Are you getting that kind of noise only when streaming Netfix, Amazon etc? How about when playing BR discs, DVDs and have you tried FM, internet radio and analog inputs?

The thing is this problem is recent. It appeared while watching Amazon. It started with a few clicks but after a few minutes it became impossible to watch pretty much like in the youtube clip, and I gave up. Later I had the same problem with Netflix. It was just unbearable. A day later I tried a dvd but had not problem at all for an hour and a half. However, yesterday and today I watched again Amazon for a couple of hours or a little more, and again had no problems at all. The point is I cannot reproduce it at will so I am not sure for example whether the dvd was OK or the noise just did not show up. That is why I am reluctant to send it for repair because it may behave alright there. I will monitor it for a little longer with different applications to try to get a better feel.
