My main problem is probably simply where to start: there are probably technical terms for what I am describing below and also articles on how to accomplish what I want to do (if I knew the terms to search for!), so links to articles or forums would be great.
We have our TV, speakers, etc, in our living room but would like to somehow place speakers in other rooms of our apartment as well, preferably through a wireless method. I should definitely mention that we live in a brooklyn apartment, which means the walls are as thick as Fort Knox (sound booming in the living room can barely be heard 20 feet away in the kitchen) and we are surrounded by a horde of wireless internet connections, wireless phones, cell phones (in addition to our own connections of course) from nearby apartments and cafes and shops. We have a Yamaha HTR-5250 receiver, a pair of Wharefale Diamond 7.2 speakers, no subwoofer, and the music comes from ipods (we rip our own MP3s at very high quality).
Specific questions:
1) Is there a specific term(s) for spreading music throughout an apartment/house with additional speakers?
2) Can we do that relatively inexpensively by adding on speakers or other components to our current setup, and if so which or what kind?
3) I probably need a subwoofer; what else would be useful? The setup does not have to be ideal or perfect; I'm thinking practical over ideal.
