splitting the center channel

I want to split my center channel signal into two so that I have a loudspeaker above and below my screen. What problems will I run into by doing this? impedance change, signal degradation, etc.

Any suggestions on the best way to do this?

Dual Center Channel

If you have a big HT system and a front projection screen then some people find a benefit to the dual center channels. To do this right you need a two channel amp to drive both speakers. You will also need a pre-amp output from your receiver for connection to the external amp.

thanks! that make sense and will allow for the most amount of flexability when tweeking the system.

The screen is 110" diag and the receiver is a Yamaha rx v2600.

A side thought: Will utilizing the presence channels on the Yami allow me to forgo the use of duel fronts? In other word can the presence channel or the front surrounds for that matter be used to raise the sound stage of my center channel with the v2600.

Yamaha Presence Channels

Yes, the Yamaha presence channels will effect the front sound stage. I would experiment with the presence channels using an old pair of bookshelf speakers before purchasing an amp and 2 center channels.

Keep in mind that your Yamaha will allow you to run 5.1 + Presence OR 7.1 (w/ surround backs).

I was hoping to avoid the duel centers. My design is not to different than the RBH Sound CinemaSITE. So adding the top center was going to be a challenge.

Duel fronts question

Hello,
I'm new to this forum and this is my first post. I'd appreciate any guidance on the following speaker setup I'm planning to impliment. I ordered and just received two Snell in-wall AMC 770’s for the left and right fronts and an AMC 870 for the center. I somehow accidentally ordered an extra 870 which I’d like to use if it makes sense. FYI - The 870's are 4 ohm and the 770's are 8 ohm. Both speaker types use identical speakers/tweeters with the 870 having two 6 1/2" base drivers vs only one for the 770.

I plan to connect the two 770’s in parallel to make the load effectively 4 ohms to match the impidence of the 870’s and use the two 770’s as a single center and the two 870’s as the L & R. I plan to put the two parallel connected 770's below the plasma with the tweeters next to each other.

thanks for the confirmation on the speaker arrangement. I've been doing a lot of reading on how I'll power the speakers and aldso what type of a/v processing i'll have. Here's my thoughts, I appreciate any feedback. I'm leaning toward a Yamaha 2700 for the 4 surrounds (7.1) and a/v control since it does a decent job on HDMI switching and signal up-processing. I plan to use the new panasonic 65" 1080P plasma and I'll get a blueRay for DVD's. I think I'll use the C/L/R pre-outs on the yamaha to a higher rated amp for driving the Snell C/L/R sijnce they are 4 ohms... something in the 200 watt per channel rating with lots of headroom/umph... basically anything that weighs about 50+ lbs or more...

I've contemplated using a dedicated a/v processor like the ones from DVDO but that drives the overall price up somewhat. Comments are appreciated...

Check out the Emotiva LPA-1. Its rated at 125w per channel 8 ohm but should give you oomph you need...and its only $499!!

Not to high-jack the thread but would this amp work for me when I am ready to add more power to the mains along side the 659 or is something like the RPA-1 a better option?
