let me start by saying im very new at A/V so my knowledge on terms n such is very limited...

Anyhow, I have a Y Splitter. It splits my cable into my cable modem and the other end goes into my HD Cable Box. I noticed my internet has shotty performance at best. the modem looses signal frequently. I read somewhere that cable modems have problems with a return signal when using the cheap Y splitter the way I am , however, the article gave no recommendations on how to correct it.

Is there something I can use to split my cable to go to both my cable modem and hd cable box without problems? If so, do you recommend a specific brand and place to purchase?

Thanks for your help!

your best option is to contact the cable company and have them install a splitter they certify and the tech can check the signal strength after the split to insure you have enough signal strength to provide the service you are paying for. It is their responsibility to get you the required level of service to your equipment. It easily could be an issue with their feed into the house from their service drop.
