Hey all,

I have a Studio 12" sub from Paradigm. My receiver has an LFE out which I'm running to the powered amp's input stamped "for LFE in" or some such wording.

But there's another input for R/L input. I've read buying a splitter for the line and running it to both channels can slightly improve the sub's performance. Sounds phishy to me.

What do the experts think?

That is because Paradigm sucks... just kidding.

Actually it is the other way around. They are a really good company and they want to make sure it is unequivocally clear for everyone involved.

The LFE input is for those with AVRs or pre-pro's that have a LFE/ Sub out. This output on the AVR or pre-pro only sends signals below the crossover point set by the user. If this is used, the subwoofer bass management needs to be bypassed so as not to double up the filters.

The L/R inputs are for those with Stereo receivers (that usually dont have a LFE out) or for folks that want to do bass management in the Subwoofer. In this situation, the crossover will need to be controlled via the knobs on the sub's amp.

So, you have to use one or the other.

As for using a Y cable on the L/R inputs, it is possible to do this and will have no difference that using the LFE in. The only difference is, the amp will sub the signal on the inputs and therefore it will be louder than using the LFE in.

Awesome reply. Very much what I was looking for. My sub is already packing quite a punch for the room it's in. I see no need to give it any extra "oomph." Several folks tried talking me into the 15" ... I can't imagine the damage it could do. :D (literally)

Thanks a lot for the informative post.

Thanks for the info in your post, but I got lost with the above statement. Can you elaborate on "the amp will sub the signal on the inputs"?
I was assuming it would do the same thing with either input (assuming you had the crossover engaged for the LFE input)
Thanks,
Kurt

One badly worded sentence + typo(s) = mayhem :).

This thought could be better stated as follows,

Assuming you are using the LFE out on the AVR side, as for using a Y cable on the sub's L/R inputs, it is possible to do this and will have no difference (in sound quality) than using the sub's LFE in. The only difference is, the sub's amp will sum the signal on the L/R inputs and therefore it will be louder than using the sub's LFE in.
