spikes vs. rubber feet

Any thoughts on what's best, spikes woth floor discs or rubber feet/pads, for the bottom of speaker stands to be used on a hardwood floor? I've seen conflicting advice on the subject.

Also, same question for the top plate between the speaker and stand. I've seen spikes, rubber pads/feet, and blue tack all used. Any suggestions on what's best and why would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

I prefer speaker spikes because to me they are analogous to a woman with nice legs in high heels compared that to a woman with nice legs wearing flats. Sound wise, there's no difference. Rubber feet are probably easier to work with than spikes on a rubber mat.

IMO, spikes are for carpeted floors, pads are for hard (wood, tile, laminet) floors. The real issue is stability if your speakers are off the floor on stands. If on carpet, pads would not be very stable.

On the top plate just something to keep the speaker from easily sliding off if desired. I used cell phone sticky pads that are designed to keep your cell phone stuck to your cars dash. Works great for locking down speakers, and I have them on my table next to my chair to keep my remote control from sliding around.

IMO, soft between the speaker and stand and spikes on the floor. I use Auralex MoPads between my speakers and stands and the stands have spikes.

100% agreed - on the money

I tend to agree with what was said previously. Choose what gives the best mechanical stability. I remember reading a lot of speculation about transferring bass energy through the floor or spikes giving the cabinets more inertia against cone movement. I don't believe any of that stuff. The important thing is to not make it easy for children or pets (or yourself) to knock your speakers over.

I am afraid to use the spikes w/discs as my hardwood floors would surely get the worst end of any un-expected shift in equipment, one just never knows.
I have extra thick felts from the blue box store, I think some hard rubber spikes could be kewl for hardwood, same shape as regular spikes but hard rubber hmmm.

I don't care for spikes myself but it just depends on whichever is easier to make level

I use felt pads on hard floors and only use spikes when the carpet is thicker and unstable. I also use blu-tack (or similar) between stand and speaker.

I have only been worried about stability. I need to reset-up and then I'll experiment with decoupling.
