Spiderwick Chronicles

Watched this movie on the plane ride back from Italy yesterday... normally I wouldn't get too excited about a kids movie shown on an airplane movie screen, but I've gotta say that the story was actually quasi-interesting and the movie had some amazing potential as a BD release. I'm very interested to see the action scenes in 1080p and hear the lossless audio track. It's coming out next Tuesday- probably just worth a rental, but I thought I'd point it out for those with kids (nobody younger than 5 or 6 though, there are a few "scary" scenes) and those who like really good children's fantasy storytelling.

I love movies like that, and will probably get it. Aside from Harry Potter, my favorite so far is Stardust.

Interesting, I'll have to look into this. I don't have kids, but I recently watched some cartoons, Open Season and Meet the Robinsons. They both have phenomenal PQ. Though the latter was more fun for me. No scary scenes that I can remember. Surf's Up is on the menu for a movie night as well.

*idly twiddling thumbs until Finding Nemo comes out on BD...*

Watched Spiderwick Blu Ray last night, netflixed it. Just the wife and I, both enjoyed it quite a bit. Beautiful picture and colors and good fun story, action. Of course I have to mention my Ultra [;)], there is some really good bass in this movie. Although a couple of times it seemed, I don't know, harsh or not right. Don't think I bottomed out, wasn't that loud. Then 1 scene I noticed it in was towards the end when mom is driving to the house and hits the porch. I will replay and check to hear for it again. Good, fun movie.

I agree with DTS - a good, fun movie. I just have a standard definition TV, but I'll bet it's beautiful on a HDTV in Blu-Ray. Lots of colors.

Agreed. A movie that most adults (the ones who are still capable of believing in the unbelievable) can enjoy. And the kids will too, I'm sure. Great fun. I can only imagine just how glorious this flick would look on Blu-ray!

cheers,

Saw this movie at a friends place last night and I liked it very much. The effects were amazing, the soundtrack stellar making good use of the subs and surrounds. Yeah its a kids story but its done well enough that it held my interest for the entire movie. I give it two thumbs up.
