Spherex X-Box Speaker System?

I was wondering if anyone has looked at the spherex X-Box speaker system. I have been reading up a little on them and they sound great for $500, but I am NOT an audiophile by any means and I know some of you are! Their Website is www.spherexinc.com if anyone is interested.

Any comments on the system would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Hmmm. It sounds like a typical multimedia system. It sounds like a combination of bose and other stuff. They use the "direct/reflected" sound thing, as well as deliberate addition of harmonic distortion to make it sound like the system is producing lower bass than it actually is. Personally, I'd recommend that you go with the Logitech Z5500 System. It accepts a digital input like the Sphere system, but also has much more power on tap and is also cheaper. You can check out the Logitech system here.

Edit: However, after checking out that review link, maybe it would be a good idea. If you could, I'd say try to find a way that you can audition the speakers before you buy 'em. Happy hunting!

Thanks for the quick replies guys. First of all, my goal is not dedicated gaming - the system would be in the family room connected to my Hitachi 51S500 - the X-Box would just be part of the system. My budget is very limited and the $500 that this costs would most likely be my ceiling. Reading some of the reviews and information on their site it seems like these are good speakers overall, not just for gaming.

My suggestion would be to buy the JVC 6040B and satellite/ sub package like the Bic America DV660

You would get some incredible value out of this system for under 400 bucks. It's probably going to sound better than any HTIB out there for the same price, and you have an extra speaker should you want to upgrade to 6.1 later on.

I cannot figure out why a manufacturer would use those spring loaded speaker clips as shown on the JVC model Hopjohn just posted (JVC 6040B ). Connection accepting banana plugs would have less than a dollar cost delta on a unit like this and take up no more space.
