Spending more on a receiver(Rotel) than speakers

Building a new audio/theater system and fell in love w/Paradigm Esprits. I'm debating whether it's feasible to buy a receiver that's 3x the amount of the speakers. I was originally considering one of the Yamahas but the local store 'highly recommends'(who'd of thought?) spending the extra cash and get the Rotel 1056. I've heard the Rotel and it's sweet, but is it a better practice to spend more of your money on the speakers rather than the receiver?
Eventually planning on adding surrounds, center and sub. 90%Audio, 10% theater.

Thanks for any advice,
Jake

No, not a good practice at all. No need for it.

I spent exactly the same amount on my mains as I did on my receiver. Add in my center, surrounds, and sub and my total amount paid was 80% five speakers plus sub, 20% receiver. System pounds.
