Hey, guys I'm new to the forum and I want to set up a 5.1 home theater system. I want to know which set of on wall speakers should I get. And yes I need a sub and receiver as well.

I know your going to ask my budget is $800 dollars.

Thanks,

Welcome to the forum, Bazooka!

Is $800 for the speakers only, or does that also include the receiver and sub?

Two mains, center and receiver will give you the best bang for the buck. Can add on later. There will be many of that combination that will fit into your budget.

Where? The OP is wanting recommendations. The speakers I posted are the cheapest quality on walls I could find.

The budget is incredibly tight for a complete 5.1 system icluding receiver. I don't generally recommend this system but have a look at it now. http://www.hsuresearch.com/products/performance1.html It will put you right at your budget if you add a $300 receiver. This system is fine for HT use but you may find it quite lacking if you want to use it for music listening. It's hard enough finding a decent on-wall system to begin with but to do it with a HTIB budget is nearly impossible. This is the best I can come up with right now in that budget range.

I did buy this system myself, so i can say with some confidence that it will work passably for home theater. I was quite disappointed with it's music performance because the low frequency extension on the satellites is quite lacking and forces you to use a very high crossover point. If you music listening is not very critical, it may be passable in that respect as well as long as you hook it up in the traditional manner and ignore the ventriloquist function.

My reply doesn't read well.

It should read; least expensive good quality on walls.

SVS SBS-01
5.0 Channel Set $599 minus 10% off.
That set came to mind to me yesterday, too, but I was thinking that they are too deep to really be considered "on-wall" speakers.

My assumption, though. The OP never said what the restrictions were, so good call on the recommendation.

e-bay ( or equivalent) for at least the receiver. Maybe someone on the Ascend forum has some for sale used.

This system will not even come close in performance, and sound quality to the Niles speakers the Zumbo posted.
I know that. I was trying hard to find a system including 5 speakers, decent sub and a receiver within the $800 budget. Add a decent receiver to the Niles system and you could very well end up doubling the original budget. If the budget is flexible and can be increased like that, of course the options and sound quality will increase accordingly. Some budgets are rigid, others are flexible, especially after one sees what is available in the original budget and the improvements that can be made by increasing it by a given amount. But I do try to give recommendations within the OP's stated budget to show what is available in that range.

Please keep in mind that the OP (who hasn't been back) hasn't answered my question from post #2. Namely, if $800 is just for the speakers or for the whole system.

The title is SPEAKERS in post #1.
Yes, so one could reasonably assume that the $800 is just for the speakers. However, because the OP mentioned a receiver and sub were also needed prior to stating the budget, it could go either way, IMO.

I still think it's all academic until/unless the OP comes back. :)

I only pull rank for the Giant games. Maybe the last game of the year against the Raiders. It should be pleasant by then.
