Hi:
I am a newbie and I am planning to purchase the Yamaha RX-V757 and a speakers system for my Living room budget for the speakers $400 - $600

I know the system is 7.1 capable but room size I cannot justify I think I can go with a 6.1 if not I should be okay with 5.1. But there are so many speakers systems out there that I don't know where to start so I just ask for your guys adviced based my budget.

Thanks a lot

Julio

Do you want towers, bookshelves, or "cube" speakers (did you plan on hanging them on a wall or putting them on stands)? Do you have a subwoofer yet?

If you were thinking of "cubes," this is a popular choice:
http://www.hsustore.com/vt12.html

If you wanted bookshelves, something like this may do:
2 pairs of these: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00006JPDI/qid=1135022602/sr=8-1/ref=pd_bbs_1/104-5934704-0387163?n=507846&s=electronics&v=glance

one of these: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00009WBYL/qid=1135022602/sr=8-2/ref=pd_bbs_2/104-5934704-0387163?n=507846&s=electronics&v=glance

and one of these: http://www.partexpress.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?&DID=7&Partnumber=300-635

For tower speakers, consider something like this - you can substitute two of the DV62 bookshelves above for these: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00011KLOI/qid=1135022762/sr=8-3/ref=pd_bbs_3/104-5934704-0387163?n=507846&s=electronics&v=glance

Thanks for the quick replay,

Cool. BIC have great reviews from the users at amazon, I know this sound like a stupid question but on the DV64 do they come on a pair. Amazon shows a price of $ 119. Is this just for one or two.

I am leaning in getting the Tower for the front, the DV62CLRS center and the bookshelf for the back.

The cubes look nice and compact which my wife will like, sound wise how do they compare to the BIC.

Thanks

The DV64's are $119 each, so you'll need to buy 2.

The setup you're considering is exactly what I am using (DV64, DV62CLRS and DV62). I'm very happy with how they sound and the price I paid. I am geting ready to send my crossovers to Ed Frias at EFE tech. for modification. I want to see what all the hype is.

Sorry again for my ignorance but what are crossovers and what is the modification.

Thanks

Crossovers are electric circuits inside your speaker that direct the incoming amplified signal to the appropriate driver (tweeter, midrange, woofer). The design of a crossover greatly affects the sound of your speakers. The Ed Frias crossover modification is supposed to tame the brightness that is stock on the DV series of speakers (brightness means too much treble) and make the sound more balanced and accurate. Apparently, BIC used to have a crossover design similar to the result of Ed's modifications and changed it a few years back to create a more "HT-Oriented" sound. Unfortunately, it didn't really help the quality of the sound and thus Ed started offering mods. I plan on having it done on my speakers' crossovers when I have the extra cash (my system is in my sig).
