Speakers in custom cabinets?

I've been researching speakers for a while now (I have the constraint of getting small speakers, or hiding larger ones becuase of the wife...DAMN her!), I'm alomst done picking my dream system, when I found an interesting advertisement that gave me an idea. Has anyone ever seen the entertainment systems offered by www.diamondcase.com/Evolution/Evolution_Main.HTML ? It gave me an idea to have cabinet like this, that is specifically made to put the speakers in them. Instead of doors, thay use the same mesh as a speaker grill. (I swear, I'm not advoacting their product)

If I do something like this, would I sacrifice a lot of sound quality? Or better yet, would I be better of with bookshelf speakers mounted to wall (room size 22x25x12), or larger towers hidden in a case like this? Thanks in advance.

Don't know what your budget is, but the RBH CinemaSite is pretty darn sexy, IMHO.

Must be the flash from the camera, damn that screen looks really washed out.
When I take a picture of my screen even with the flash on, it does not wash it out that bad?????

I don't think I have that kind of budget. I was planning on around $2,000 fpr speakers.

PSB has a new line of cabinet speakers that may fit your bill. I am not sure of the price. Check them out at http://www.psbspeakers.com

Edit: Never mind, They are $5,000 a pair and $3,500 a pair for the CHS80 and CHS60 respectively.

Placing Speakers in a cabinet can have adverse affects on the sound. It may cause boominess in the speaker's response. Especially if it were a rear ported speaker. If the speaker is recessed too deeply into the cabinet it can also adversely affect the speaker's dispersion characteristics.

One could use a front ported speaker, if the rest of the cabinet were filled with acoustic foam or other damping material.
