Can someone advise me on 'not so expensive but good sounding speakers' for my living room? I have heard of Era speakers from a friend. Anyone knows?

Also, what will you be using the speakers for? Listening to music, to provide Home Theater to movies and TV ?

• Preference: Floorstanding or bookshelves?

The audioholics store has the EMP-351 5.1 speaker system on sale at about 60% off or $489 as of 1/20/09. It is a good deal and I can verify it will cleanly fill a very large room to as loud as you would care to listen.

Without knowing the specific of your environment/requirement, it's difficult to recommend.

I have heard Swans, AV123 Rockets and have liked both brands for their value.
