Speakers for a small hometheater

I recently purchased a Samsung HT-SK6 receiver, it was a demo unit and didn't include the Klipsch speakers. As much as I would enjoy having the Klipsch speakers, they are out of my price range for now, the RW10 subwoofer sells for $750. and up. Can anyone suggest a 5.1 speaker system with a powered subwoofer at a more reasonable (to me) price?

I realize that my next question isn't germane to this forum, but I will ask it anyway, does anyone know where I can beg, borrow, or steal a copy of the owners manual for the HT-SK6?

I will appreciate any suggestion, thanks...dcc

Hi corysmith01, thanks for the response. I've been to the Samsung download center five times now, and have not been able to get a successful download, nor could two other friends and one brother. Samsung's response to their malfunction was to offer to sell me a manual at $17. pluss shipping, another $10.
As for a budget, I honestly don't know what a reasonable amount is. I would like to get by with about $300., but it looks like I'll have to spend that much on a used Klipsch RW10, so realistically I guess I'm looking at about $500., unless you could suggest something that would work for less.

I was able to download the manual from their site without problem. It is a pretty large pdf file (4.84 MB) so it could take awhile if you are using a dial-up connection.

I'd suggest you go with these speakers Athena .5 System and this sub Velodyne 3750 .

This would come to $500 including shipping and would do at least as well as the klipsh system that came with the package. To put it in perspective for you that Velodyne sub has an MSRP of $500 by its self, so does the .5 system

You could alteratively go with the Athena Micra System , it is the budget system suggested by this site. It is not as good as the .5 system with that Velodyne but it would only run you $350 shipped.

Good luck with your purchase.

Edit: I also had no trouble downloading the manual. It does take a while even on my work computer which has a super high speed connection.

I second Takereasy's suggestion. It would be very difficult to match that deal. Easy, we agree way too often. I suppose you enjoy an occasional Labatts as well?

It's a shame that all of the Athena Audition series 1's are all gone. That was a hell of a deal wile it lasted.

I used to drink Labatts, but I've moved on, it was my party beer through highschool and I used to be a staunch defender vs. other brands. Now I find it just tastes too sweet to drink more than 2 or 3. I drink Moosehead mostly, but I'm not fussy. If it's beer and it's cold it'll do the trick. I know it's mean but the only American beer I can really drink is Coors Light. Beer here is getting insanely priced. It's $11.95 for 6 Moosehead, and $11.25 for 6 Labatts.

Futureshop by my house still has some B-1's they are clearing out for $99 CDN, same deal for that center Athena makes. At a futureshop a little further away they are selling AS-F2's for $400 CDN a pair. If I was starting over I know what my System might look like.

Beer & Speakers

I ended up with a pair of F1's, a pair of B1's, a Center C1 and a P300 sub (will be replaced ASAP) for $457US. Can't beat that.

Sorry DCC. I didn't mean to hijack your thread.

DCC, that deal that takeereasy posted is gonna be tough to beat. The athena's are known for their bang-for-the-buck quality and you'd be hard pressed to beat that Velodyne for that money.

As for the pdf, I also had trouble, but had something that did work a bit better. For whatever reason, whenever I clicked the title that says "HT-SK6 Introduction (ver. 1.0)", my computer would hang up a bit...but if you look two blocks to the right and see that adobe acrobat icon, click that and it seems to work. Have no clue why, but it seems to work without getting hung up.

Hope that helps.

Hi corysmith01 and assorted beer breaths...Thanks for the advice, I checked it out and that looks like what I'm going with.
As far as downloading the manual, I have tried every thing that I could think of to make it work, but it just stops! I tried lowering the privacey setting, turned off zone alarm, stood on my head while drinking a Moosehead, and typed in the address with my left foot...nada. Does this mean that I have to move to Canada to make the download?
All this talk of beer has left me longing for a cold brew, but alas...my gout won't permit it. Thanks guys...dcc

Hey guys...I was able to finally download the HT-SK6 manual. I had recently switched to Firefox as my browser and didn't think anything about that being my problem until I read a thread at another site with a forum specifically for browsers. I went back to the Outlook Express to try this download and had no problems. Thanks again for the good advice, dcc
