Hey everyone,

I'm presently trying to build a prospective home theater system to buy in the next few months. Right now my priority is to put together a solid 3.1 system, then add surround speakers at a later time. I've read a ton of reviews and am looking to stay below $2,000 for a pair of towers. Right now Ive been looking primarily at the Aperion Audio 6T+6c and the Paradigm Studio 60 V.5 + CC-490. Based on list price, I would be spending significantly more for the Paradigm's, however, i understand they can often be bought for significantly less.

As for the sub, I am completely up in the air on that one. I live in a condo so despite having concrete wall, I can't go too ridiculous.

Are there any other speaker lines that you guys could recommed I look at? I'm presently planning on powering them with a Pioneer Elite SC-25.

Any help is appreciated.

Hey ChicagoLR3,

Before I recommend brands...Is the 2K budget alloted only for the L and R? There are plenty of Towers in that price range. But my Question is, do you really need towers and are you open to bookshelves? And...Are you more into HT or prefer music? I also live in Chicago(in a condo as well) and there are plenty of dealers in the city:) Shoot me a PM if you have further questions.

I have two main reasons for going for towers. 1) my TV will be sitting on a fireplace about 4' x 3', and i would like to flank it with towers 2) to resist upgraditis for as long as i can.

Right now I am about 90% HT. But I have no doubt that once I get a good set up that will probably drop to 50/50.

Thats kinda funny, I've been to the Cobra Lounge about two blocks from there several times and never knew there was a shop up the block. i live probably a mile away or so in the west loop. I guess i'll have to check it out this weekend.

Dude! We're literally neighbors :) I'm in the UIC area. Only thing with music direct is you really can't audition the gear. Although they have a 30 day money back guarantee. But rest assured that Focals make excellent speakers. I don't know if you know but the Best Buy at Elston has a Magnolia Audio Video Design(not just your ordinary magnolia). They carry Sonus Faber, the higher end vienna acoustics, Martin logan and Monitor audio.

I have been to that one a couple of times. last time i was there they had a really nice setup with some Mcintosh components, a tube amp (i forget the brand), and some nice Martin Logan Electrostatics. I firmly annoyed the fiance by ditching her to examine it.

There's a Magnolia at the BB on Roosevelt too. Since the BB website says they have a pioneer SC-25 there I'm going to hit it so i can check it out.

On a side note, I thought it was odd that music direct appeared to only sell the 700 line of focal speakers...

Yup the Mcintosh and ML set up is alright:eek: The BB at roosevelt has a regular Magnolia only. If you want more higher end stores, check out audio consultants at randolph near halsted and Promusica at clark and fullerton. Also trying Decibel audio by milwaukee(although their gear is not as high end as Audio consultants and Pro Musica. The guys at Promusica are more into 2-channel and Naim components(awesome) :)

I believe that the 700 series that MD is selling may be a discontinued line but still great.

It is hard to find fault with 6T's and 6C. I am not hardcore audiophile but I have 2x6T's, 1x6C, 2x5DB's and am extremely satisfied. Apart from sound qualities, their finish is top grade.

murthvs,

you said "apart from the sound qualities" Is there anything about the sound quality you dont like?

I love how they sound ... (make sure you have a decent AVR to get most out of them)

The one thing I dislike a little but dont bother much is that the towers weigh 70lbs each.

I'm actually considering the weight to be a bonus. I foresee youngun's running around our condo in the next few years, and would like a heavier speaker they cant knock over.

There are lots of good towers in the sub 2k range. In the ID world, Axioms M80s would be very comparable to the Aperion T6. Salk Songtowers would also fit the bill.

you can always outfit your towers with outriggers when you get to the running youngun's stage.

Then that's a real bonus :) Pull the trigger and there is nothing to lose with the Aperion guys! You may already know that Aperion gives risk free 30-day audition! Their customer service is very good.

WAF is a little high with these Aperions amid their size/weights - thanks to their finish.
