Yes, snake oil is prevalent in some audio circles:mad:
There is nothing wrong with placing your cables on the floor, especially if you don't mind seeing it there.
If some others are trying to convince you, ask for credible evidence for it's supposed benefits.:D Oh, their saying it is not evidence.;)

No, no, no. For optimum sound quality, the speaker cable must run from one corner of the room, to the ceiling on the opposite side of the room. The speaker wire must ascend at a constant angle, unless this constant angle would be greater than 34.52 degrees, in which case you need to shape the speaker wire into a Christmas tree or else your bass will sound "rolled off." If you don't want to attempt to run the wire like this yourself, Monster sells a kit that makes it easier for $2,500.

I have some swamp land in Florida to sell you!!!!:D
Run the wire on the floor, just not under any heavy furniture or where it can get stepped on.:) John

There are some people who have such acute hearing that when an insect traverses a wire, the sound imparted into the audio stream by their many feet pounding on the wire is a terrible distraction to their enjoyment of their music. Hence, to prevent this bothersome annoyance, they've decided to raise the speaker wire of the ground so said insects can walk under it, threby not making those annoying noises.

Now, if they could just keep that troublesome dust from settling on the wire and causing resonances...

Actually what needs to be done is simple, go to Home Depot rent a gas powered concrete saw, proceed to cut a trench roughly 4 inches deep by 4 inches wide in your slab, insert speaker wire, fill with quick drying hydraulic concrete, replace finish flooring: this will keep bugs, dust, pet dander, annoying kids, annoying relatives and magnetic flux waves from harming speaker signal. Oh I forgot you've got to wrap them in aluminum foil before you bury them.:)

I don't know if I'd recommend such a saw. Have you seen the dust it throws up, in a confined space? He'll be cleaning dust forever. May have to declare his house a Superfund cleanup site.
