I need some inexpensive speaker wire to test an old high end Legacy Audio surround system. Anything I can pick up quickly from home Depot that will do the trick?

Home Depot has bulk cabling/wire which can be purchased by the foot at most locations. They also have a low voltage section which will have speaker wire. If you just need a couple/few feet, you may buy from the bulk section without any issue. Their 2-conductor stuff is fine. You may need to use a knife to strip the cabling so the bare wire is showing. Take your time and don't hurt yourself.

The cheapest thing will be common zip cord, also known as lamp cord. It will have ridges along one of the conductors to help keep the polarity straight.
