Speaker wire under hardwood floors?

I'm having hardwood flooring installed and wondering if this is my opportunity to have the room wired for rear speakers?

Installing by baseboards, walls, ceilings is not an option due to room set up.

Will this work?

I would think it dangerous. How will the flooring clear the wire? How will future hardwood installs be safe without damaging the wire?

I have my surround wires under the hardwood floor. If something goes wrong in the future with it I'll have to do something else but it works just fine.

While my room has carpet, I have my speaker wire run under my sub-floor. It's easy enough to pull a path of the sub-floor up and put it back down (presuming it's screwed in). If your floor joists run parallel to the direction of your wire run you can attach the wire to the floor joists with wire clips. If the joists cross the wire path you can drill holes through the floor joists to pass the wire through, but I would recommend some google research on how large those holes can be and where they should be positioned in the joist.

If you have a good installer, he should be able to cut (recess) grooves into the underside of the boards for the wire to run through. That along with some thinner, low-profile speaker wire such as 16 ga. lamp cord and you should be in business. We did something similiar with our floor, an 18 ga. wire for power and a phone wire. The two come up out of the floor under the couch to provide power and service for a lamp and phone located on the coffee table. That way there’s no wiring stretched across the floor from the coffee table to an outlet.
