Speaker Wear and Tear

Is it ok to run everyday TV viewing (background a couple hours a night) through your main speakers? Do they succumb to overuse? Most TV seems to not stretch the limits of frequencies. It is the duration I'm worried about.
Thanks

I'll be curious to read what some of the more informed members here will have to say, but I'd say it's safe. Hell, I use my HT stuff EVERY day at least a little and sometimes a lot, and sometimes, err... often LOUD.

I'm an old guy that's been in sound for many years, and I have several speakers that are probably older than you that still work fine. If not abused, many drivers can last for decades. Foam surrounds can be prone to dry rot, but even then only after 10-15 years or more.

Enjoy your speakers. They're meant to be used.

Drivers dont wear out, with exception to the suspension, especially those that use foam surrounds, and odd spider materials (or whatever the proper name for that part is...I came from car audio, so I just use that terminology).

One of my favorite speakers was a Sansui SP-35....that thing was older than dirt...I think it had a 1963 manufacture date. I sold them when I moved from Indiana to California in dec 2000, and they were still going strong. Nearly 40 years...and I really wouldnt be surprised if they could do 40 more.
