As you can probably tell I am a newb, but I need some advice I have a room that I plan on using for HT and I need to know what size speakers to buy.
the room is approx. 14ftx14ft with a sloped ceiling the highest point of which is about 12ft and the low point is 7ft. I want good sound but I also want to be able to move around the room.
Any help is appreciated

It will be helpful to know what kind of budget you've got in mind, as well as the other components in your system (receiver, etc.) Speakers can range from $99 tp $500,000, so let us know what you can spend and your listening habits (pop/rock, metal, jazz, classical, etc.)

As far as my equipment is concerned very entry level.
Pioneer vsx-815
inherited bose accoustimass 6s
pioneer S-ew5 subwoofer
Sony low end dvd player
Sony 32" crt
My budget is unestablished as I have just bought a house and was hoping to buy the speakers peice meal rather than as a package
Thanks for the help

By the way I don't live in the US which severely limits what I have access to in the way of speakers. In fact when I buy I will probably have to bring my speakers in from Australia. The speakers I am interested in are either the Wharfedale 9.5s or the B&W 603 S3 for the front. I live in the country of Vanuatu. For more info check out this web site

B&W 603's are amazing... I own 2 sets... My favorite choice in the price range... Must/Best Buy.

I have found out over the years that rooms with sloped ceilings can be tricky.
If the speakers are at the 7' end it tends to sound better than if the speakers are at the 12' end. The slope of the ceiling can add distracting reflections when the speakers are at the high end of the room and aiming into the low end of the room. John

As for sloped ceilings, the solution can often be as for all room surfaces. You can
A) buy sound absorbing material and pannels.

or My solution

B) add pictures and other items to the surface to make it less flat. Just make sure the items dont rattle. Movie Posters with carpet or a ruber type surface on the back would help allot.

The purpose is to disrupt a flat surface ability to reflect sound at such an easy and consistant way. You will also probably have to adjust the speakers balance. Though I have little experiance in this area.
