Hi!
Not sure if this is the right place, but no luck in the speaker forum!

When I'm watching a DVD and I fast forward or change chapter,my front speakers make a bang or a hard thud sound.
My fronts are Diamond 9.5's (30-24khz) and I have the crossover on my receiver (Yamaha RXV-650) set at 80hz.
This is not heard in my subwoofer or surround speakers and only happens while watching DVD's.
Any ideas?
Thanks.

Not sure what you are tryi9ng to describe. Is that a low frequency thud? A higher frequency click?

If the latter, it is signal loss click. If the former, not sure as it should not happen.

Yes, I just saw your other post. Sorry, instant responses are rare

Thanks for the reply!
It was a pretty deep thud/boom!
I think I have it sorted...I think!
I think that I have confused volume levels with speaker (decibel) levels!
And I had the fronts quite high,I realised my mistake when I lowered the speaker levels and the volume hardly changed!
I have yet to try another DVD,as my husband is watching Football and I can't interrupt!
So tomorrow I'll see!
I still don't get what the difference is between volume and speaker levels!
Thanks,
Debs

"I still don't get what the difference is between volume and speaker levels! "
Well the Volume is The Master Volume (For EveryThing) and the speaker levels are so u could match all of the speakers in case there off(not reaching you at the same time.)

Still confused!

I'm still getting this bang sound, when I forward etc a DVD,it only happens if I skip during a scene with lots of bass, such as the ice bank breaking away in "The Day after tomorrow".It's as if the bass is "hanging on"!! It doesn't happen at low volume or on dialogue scenes.
I really can't explain myself! Sorry!

As for the volume and speaker level, yes I'm obviously totally backward!

OK,the Volume level is for the loudness of the whole system.got that!
The speaker level is to balance the sound,so that I'm hearing the same volume level from each speaker, right?

So what I don't get is,where should I lower/raise the speaker levels to?
The volume is in - db,and on my system and in my small living room,-15db is really loud! (for DVD),normal listening would be around -25db I suppose.
BUT on the speaker level control,it has a range of -10db up to +10db.
This is what is confusing me,at what db should these be set?
And why do I not hear a change in volume while changing the speaker levels?

Thanks in advance for your help...again! ;)

What DVD Player are you using? Have you tried a different player?

I have a Philips DVDR-890 connected with a coaxial digital audio cable.
I do not have another machine to try. :(
Can't work it out,
I'll have to just mute the volume when I skip scenes etc...for now.
Watch this space...unless I give up! :(
