Do not combine the PSB center with Salk towers if you can at all help it. Trust me. If you first do it, you will think aw gee it actually sounds pretty good. Then one day you will actually match them, and think OMG what a difference, what have I been doing this whole time . . .

Don't ask me how I know.

I think I have only read superlative things about Salk. I think it seems to be a can't miss, from everything I have read.

They are taller than typical, which is inherent to the design, at least the Song Towers.

I might find out how difficult your two candidates are in terms of the load they present. If one is a lot easier to drive, it may become something to consider since you're driving them with a receiver . . . good luck.

Without knowing what the PSBs sound like, I can only generalize. Both speakers have good reputations and good reviews.

The PSB is a 2½-way in a bass reflex cabinet, and the SongTower is a 2-way MTM in a mass-loaded transmission line cabinet. Both have two 5¼" woofers and are rated as 4 ohm speakers. It is my guess that the SongTower bass will sound better. You should try to listen to the SongTowers to find out for sure.

PSB has polypropylene woofers, the ST has paper/reed fiber woofers. It is my guess that the Salk woofers may have better midrange detail. Again, listen to them to be sure.

From the PSB specs it looks like the Imagine T tower could be driven by most any decent AVR. I know the STs can be driven by any amp or receiver that delivers at least an honest 50 wpc at 8 ohms.

It may come down to price. From the reviews on the PSB site, the Imagine T seems to retail at $2000 a pair. The price for SongTowers with a standard veneer finish will be about the same if you include shipping. From my experience with the SongTowers, they easily beat other speakers selling for the same price. You should try to hear them. Look here for the Owner's Audition List. Scroll down a bit and you'll see some STs for sale. You could also email Jim Salk and ask who owns them near you.

I have no idea whether the SongTower blends well with the PSB center. My SongTowers blend alright with my NHT SuperCenter for movies, but not as well for music.

As good as PSB is - they will not blend with the Song Towers. The good
speaker companies voice their speakers to blend together. Both companies
have good reputations. Find a way to audition the Song towers - all the
reviews are too good to ignore. Another one to try is the Boston VS series
tower speakers.

Nope, don't blend the two speakers together. Very bad.

I haven't heard the Salks but I have heard the Imagines and it would take an really amazing speaker to beat the mids from the PSBs. A more life like representation I have not heard. The Salks being Transmission Line speakers would have a better bass response..but the bass on PSB is no slouch by any means. The PSBs are a neutral speaker, have fantasttic imaging and soundstaging and are very dynamic as well.
