Speaker system for wedding

Hi,

I am looking for some advise on outdoor speaker systems. I am getting married and need a speaker system for music, etc. The area is fairly small, large deck that fits no more than 40 people. Having it in small town mexico, so there is only one rental place, and it is $500 for a few hours. Thought I would see if there is something I could buy and bring down that would work. Looking to spent less than $1000, and it has to be fairly small so transport is easy.

I am a beginner when it comes to this stuff, so if anyone could recommend something, give me some advise, or tell me it cant be done in that price range, it would be much appreciated.

And you (the groom) will DJ yourself I assume ?

/s

Do yourself a favor and hire a pro DJ. He'll bring his own equipment. There must be local djs or mariachi bands for hire :)

We are having a guitar player, but since it is such a small group, I dont think he will be using the pa system. More just looking for speakers to play some tunes after the reception.

As long as you aren't expecting anything perfect, you could probably just rent a system, get a laptop, install virtualdj or whatever else does beatmatching, and create a mix or playlist and just let it go :D Of course, there's nothing wrong with hiring a decent DJ as well. I would advise you to have him demonstrate his abilities first though...my older sister's wedding had the worst "dj" in the world. Dude was just using itunes or whatever and would just stop a song, give it a few seconds, and then start the next one.

Not picky, but if I am spending $500 on it, would be nice if I got some speakers out of it..

Well, considering your specs in your first post, that all-in-one solution makes great sense. I've used similar at various church functions and it will fit the bill, guaranteed.

But, if you want speakers. these will fit the bill nicely.

What are you going to use as a source, I wish my wife would have gone for this, our DJ was around $5000 for the night, but that included a band, cellist, and grand piano player...

There are a lot of good options For $1000 I start with one of these Peavey Escort 3000 Portable PA System | eBay

then one of these Amazon.com: GTD Audio G-622H 200 Channel UHF Professional Wireless microphone Mic System: Musical Instruments

one of these Powered 15" Subwoofer Cabinet PA DJ Pro Audio Band Speaker Active 15 inch Sub | eBay

maybe one of these just in case the wireless acts up one of these Shure PG48 LC Stand Cable Package | eBay but the wireless is nice to pass around during the toasts... And them monitors on the stands with a single 15" SA sub will be plenty loud enough for what you describe and small enough to play with in your house, believe it or not they come in handy...
I have a larger system for parties in my yard but we have up to 300 people over at some times, its essentially this set EV Live x Powered Speaker System Karaoke DJ Band PA ELX115P ELX118P Subs Speaker | eBay that I run off a cheap mixer I plug some mics into and ipods, the last party I left the iphone cable out and people were playing their own music off their phones....But look around Peavey, EV, Mackie, Cerwin vega, ect.. all them companies make decent stuff that will last joe homeowner forever, I always liked that small escort system because I figure someone can add a Amazon.com: Emerson GQ100 Karaoke Player: Musical Instruments and a do karaoke at parties... the discs used to be expensive now they are cheap Amazon.com: 12 Disk Karaoke CDG KJ TOOLS Set 243 Songs Great Variety Pack: Music ...

But anyway thats enough from me, good luck and congrats on the wedding..
