i am looking for stands for my yamaha ns-333 which weigh a hefty 12.1 pounds making stand a bit hard to find... i am going to be using the speakers as rears and really want the angled kind but have been unable to find them... i also want them to be non obtrusive as they will be in my dorm room... anyone have any suggestions? otherwise i was just going to venture and try to build my own
thanks

Chuck,

Are you looking for stands that sit on the floor or for wall-mounted brackets? I ask because you mention the weight of the speaker and that you "really want the angled kind."

I've seen racksandstands.com recommended here. I have Sanus speaker stands (floor standing) and am quite happy with them - but they make a variety of stands with varying quality.

they need to be floor standing because i can not attache anything to the walls in my dorm... ill have to check out racksandstands.com... sanus has a pair that i like but they are only rated to 10 lbs. so i am thinking that i dont want to risk them falling over or my speakers breaking or anything like that :D

Were you looking at the Sanus Hover HF1? Now I know what you meant by angled.

You could contact Sanus and ask them if a 12.1 lb speaker would be a problem for those stands. It might be stand stability that caused their rating (which was probably conservative), and putting some extra weight on the base might allow for a heavier speaker. They should be able to tell you.

i just contacted them and of course they couldnt tell me because if something were to happen they wouldnt cover it and so they would not go beyond that... does anyone else have these stands? would 12.1 lbs work or would that be pushing it?? they are the only company to have the angled idea so i cant even go with a different company!

Not saying this is perfect - just throwing out an idea for consideration. You could get regular flat surface speaker stands that will hold more weight, and put these Yamaha STS2 angled brackets (available at other places, too) on top, assuming that they'd work with your speakers.

You could also put in some wall-mount brackets and then fix the walls when you moved out. ;)

As a cat owner, I've been looking to buy or build some really bottom heavy stands. The other day when I was at Menard's, I saw a shop stand for about $40. It's around 22 or 24 inches high and made out of cast iron or something. They definitely have some heft to them. I don't know if they would resonate at some annoying frequency, though.
