hi looking to buy speaker stands for my rear speakers how tall should they be my speakers weigh about 4 lb dont want to pay a lot of money any ideas thanks

you should give us a bit more info about your room layout...
Some suggest they should be above your head a couple feet on your sides.

I had to go pretty high with my layout and aim them down towards your ears...
with wall brackets.

www.audioadvisor.com is also another good source for stands in addition to the two mentioned. You aren't going to find a lot of really tall stands that allow placement feet above your head, so depending on the speaker, you may need to look at some kind of bracketry to mount them.

I disagree about that placement strategy anyway. My bookshelf speakers are all on stands, all at the same ear level so the sound is even across the board.

I have 24" tall speaker stands right now and they're about right. I like my speakers close to about ear level (i usually shoot to line up with the tweeter, more or less), or a little lower since I lean back when I'm listening most times to my stereo.

For surrounds, like yours, I worry less about height. In my home theater I have my surrounds on 30" stands so they are above ear level but by not by a whole lot. I preferred that to having them hidden behind the top of my couch.

my speakers are onkyo 5.1 ht so you think ear level is fine what is your sound level on are both speakers on the same sound level all new to this ht stuff bear with me

I'm not sure what you just asked. Are you asking if both speakers are calibrated to the same level? It really doesn't mattery how my speakers are calibrated, you should just calibrate yours to whatever you think sounds right.

For what it's worth, no I don't think my rears are both set exactly the same, generally speaking I sit further from one than the other so I have them calibrated with that as a consideration.
