I am looking to buy some new speakers to replace my old Cerwin Vegas E312s'

I use my system for music only
I have a Harman Kardon AMP A130

2 technics turntables
1 Velodyne CHT-8 sub (thinking about replacing as well)

I have been reading lots and lots about speakers and there seems to be sooo many choices - help is appreciated!!

more info

The Harman Kardon AMP is a couple of days new as well as the Velodyne sub.

I puchased Harman Kardon knowing nothing about receivers just going on the name. Bad move ? good move?

Good move. About your speakers, well, how much are you willing to spend?. I think many people here like Paradigm, B&W, Canton (expensive), Dynaudio (expensive), Axiom (not that expensive), Athena (not that expensive). I like the Yamaha NS or the new HX series and the Energy Connoisseur C-5.

I'd check out the Axiom guys. Their stuff is well-regarded on many websites, cost-effective, and, well, Canadian...

That amount is in Canadian dollars :p
Well, if you preffer Canadian gear, maybe you should go with Paradigm or Energy. Personally i think speakers are the difference so i recomend you to do EXHAUSTIVE listening. Hear the speakers, don't hear the salesmen. Your budget is more than sufficient to buy a decent set of speakers.

I guess I should have been more careful I didn;t mean to slam non-Canadian companies, but it would be easier to get service.

I would take a look at Athena at the lower end. Very efficient and sound very good for the money. On the upper end I would check out the Paradigm Studio Series these are also very efficient and work very well with electronic music.

The other question is how big of a place are you trying to fill with sound and what kind of volume levels are you looking at ? The Harmon Kardon equipment is good for the money. What kind of power does it put out ?

These are just a couple of suggestions there are many other scenarios that are possible however. Check out used equipment. Trying e-bay and Audiogon would be a good start. Let us know what models your looking at and we can help guide you. Its worth doing research. It pays off in the end.

Cheers,
glenn

Look no further than the Paradigm Monitor 7's, they can be had for around 849 here in canada. I have listened to them extensively and currently am saving up to buy them. Right now i have the paradigm titans as my fronts and the cc370 center channel from the monitor series. This center channel throws some serious sound for HT. These are a great deal since it is a canadian company. Also, they are actually easier to drive than the more expensive studio series. Check them out you won't be dissappointed. Also, most opinions i have heard suggest that the 7's are better than both the more expenisive monitor 9s and 11s although i have not listened to either. Good Luck
