Background: I am by no means an audiophile and I am putting togehter a system for my basement 25x25, viewing/listening area 10x20, 8 foot cielings.

Goal: A system to provide quality sound and feel for reasonable price (best price/performance ratio). I will be using the system for 75% movie/25% music. 7.1 channel, multizone receiver to provide music to upstairs dining room and provide 5.1 for 57 in Hitachi RPTV. Budget is no greater than the package listed below.
I came across the older model Klipsch Synergy and thought it was a great package for the price. I listened to the Klipsch and my wife and I both enjoyed them over some of the others out their (JBL, Energy). I agree that they are more of a brighter speaker compared to others. Please advise if you think there is a better set-up for the price and also what reciever would you recommend to possibly not make the speakers as bright and harsh at high frequencies?
Recievers considered:
Denon AVR-785S
Yamaha HTR-5760

That sounds like a good deal on that package. I would go with the Denon receiver though as the yamaha might be a little bright for those speakers. I have a Denon 885S (2105) with Klipsch SF-2's, SB-1's, & SC.5 and they are a great match for the Denon. For the money, the klipsch combo can't be beat, very clear sounding.

If you are sold on the Klipsch package I'd have to agree with Truckguy. My sole regret with my RX-V1500 is the inability to match it with Klipsch. I have listened to the Yamaha/Klipsch combination and didn't like what I heard.
That is only 2 opinions however. The opinion that matters is yours. Listen for yourself!! Don't blindly go by what anyone tells you for speaker selection. Get what sounds good to your ears.

Are Athena's available from this location? If so, they would be a much better choice. IMO

Either the Klipsch or the Yammie, but don't do both together. Your dog will be in therapy for the rest of his life... :D

Also new to the world

I notice a couple of comments that basically did not recomend Yamaha receivers and Klipsch speakers. I too was looking at this options and now have become hesitant. Can someone please explain why these two should not be together. I thank you for any help you can provide

both Klipsch and Yamaha have a reputation for a "bright" sound, or a little more emphasis on the high frequences. People will "normally" match the bright Klipsch to a more nuetral receiver like Denon, or "tame" the Yamaha with a nuetral speaker like Infinity. These matches fill in some of the sound that is understated in a "bright" component.

You still have a little bias, but it's not exaggerated.

Two "brights" together, on the other hand, would sound downright squeeky... :D

Then again, bright, treble emphasis, speakers, combined with a receiver with a reputation for being bright sounding, may infact be the perfect match for your particular room's acoustics.

In other words, there is no right or wrong, as long as your ears like the sound and your dog doesn't yelp in pain everytime you turn on a movie.

I consider Klipsch to be harsh. B&W & MB Quart are bright & sound great with Yamaha! Klipsch, OTOH, might be better with H/K or NAD. But, I just plain don't like the way they sound. No offense. :)

Hi
I have currently have the 2500 driving the Klipsch Flagship RF-7 system
I have had the 3805 , 56TXI and Sherwood Newcastle connected to this same system
Yamaha has completeley redesigned there amp section and it sounds no more forward than any of the receivers mentioned above I will tell you that the 2500 is a better overall receiver than the three mentioned above and its analog pre-out are the quietest I have heard on any receiver
I would choose the 2500 over the 3805 for any speaker system

interesting. I thought my 2500 sounded nuetral, but I have it hooked to Infinities.
