I bought some Polk Audio Speakers (Rsi10's I believe) and they have top and bottom connections. I have them hooked up to the top pair...what is the bottom pair for?

Also, I read that the subwoofer should be hooked up from the receiver to the sub and then from the sub to your speakers. I don't have the sub hooked up to my speakers now.. Is this an old way of doing it? The way I have it hooked up now is from the receiver using a subwoofer cable with a "y" adapter straight to my sub.

Any thoughts..

The top and bottom connections are for using a separate amp to power your tweeter and your woofer. There should be a plate or wire connecting the two reds and another connecting the blacks. It doesn't matter which one you connect your speaker wire to.

Your sub is hooked up correctly.,

Don't wory about it

Your current method of hooking up the sub is the correct way since you have a sub out. You would use the speaker level inputs on the sub if you did not have sub out on your receiver, or receiver had no bass management and you need to use the sub high pass crossover.

The two sets of connectors are there to allow the speakers to bi-wired or bi-amplified if you were to defeat the internal crossover. Bi-wiring is pretty much pointless and bi-amping requires the use of external active crossovers. As long as there is a bar, known as a jumper, connecting the upper set of terminals to the lower set of terminals it doesn’t matter which set you have your speaker wires connected to.

Do I need an amplifier? Right now I have a Denon 3805 Receiver that seems to be pushing enough sound to the speakers??? Is there any needs for amplifiers these days?

Thanks for the prompt response.

At this point, no, you do not need an amplifier. Since you are using a subwoofer you are not requiring the 3805 to push the speakers with the most difficult frequencies…in other words, don’t worry about it.
