I have a problem. I have AR TSW 410 speakers that I bought new, and I successfully drove them with a 70wpc philips receiver for over ten years. About a year ago, I bought a used Sansui A-60 integrated amplifier, and was impressed with the improvement in sound quality that it brought over my Philips. However, within months of connecting it to my speakers, the A-60 simply stopped working. I heard nothing but hideous static coming from the right speaker. I dismissed this as an old amp simply giving up the ghost, and, not wanting to return to the inferior quality Philips receiver, replaced it with another used amp, this time a restored Denon PMA-757. That was a few weeks ago, and now I hear nothing but hideous static coming from my left speaker. There was a smell of burning coming from the vicinity of the amplifier. I cannot imagine that the destruction of two amplifiers in such a short period of time is purely coincidence. What could be causing this? Are my speakers the culprit? Any advice you have would be appreciated.

Speaker wire shorts or ground faults can and will absolutely damage an amp. Check your wiring.
