Speaker Pop Denon AVR-3805

Hello,
I've had the Denon AVR-3805 for about a year now and have been very happy with it. The last several weeks, however, it has developed a popping noise from the Surround Back Left (SBL) speaker whenever I pause and restart my DVR or DVD player. It is ONLY this speaker, not the SBR or SL or SR. I've switched the speaker lines between SBL and SBR to test whether it is the speaker or speaker lines and the pop moves to the SBR so it is not the speaker.... it is the signal coming from the SBL channel in the amp. I've tried changing surround modes and nothing takes it out. I can mute before pausing and that solves the problem, but I shouldn't have to do that. Any suggestions or does this need a warranty repair?

Thanks for your help.
Tom

Sounds like that channel is going bad. Better take it in for service while it is under warranty.

I want to know why it only happens with the DVR or DVD player??? Before I sent it in to Denon, I would spend 1 hour doing another check. Denon is swamped right now with people problems, as well as a corperate move that they did. My 2910 was in for repairs for 5 weeks.

Take the 3805 out of the rack. Like set it up on a table or something. Hook a CD player, DVD player or something to it. Hook up some speakers and try and duplicate it in a totally different place. Amps (Generaly work or they do not) Sounds to me like a power spike of some sort going to that 1 speaker line. Which J Garcia has 90% chance of being right about the amp.

I am not discounting what J Garcia said I am just saying before you ship it in, you are going to have to take it out of the rack any ways, so why not spend an hour and do one more check? What if you set it up, and it works perfectly? I would just make sure that it is the 3805 before I sent it in for 5 weeks. But that is just me.

The fact that the problem stayed with the channel suggests it is the receiver or a connection. The first thing I would check is the speaker wire going into the receiver, especially if you've moved anything that might have affected your wires recently. There's a chance that wire got knocked loose or that it has a stray strand or two that may be touching the chassis. I would definitely do as much testing as possible before sending it back.

When my PM7000 had a problem, they told me it would be over 2 months to send it in for service (still under warranty)!! The shop was very nice about it though and let me trade it in towards the 7200 I now have.

Thanks for the replies. Yes, I will do some more testing. I don't want to be without it for a month. I did swap the speaker lines to verify it was not a speaker or line problem. It is definately isolated to the one channel (SBL). The question is why. That happens to be the last connection on the extreme left side of the amp. Maybe it got wacked or something. I can try testing it with other sources in addition to the DVD or DVR. Anything user servicable in there? Could I take the cover off and see if something is lose on that connection inside?

Thanks again.

I would guess it is still under warranty, so I would not take the cover off because that will void the warranty. I wouldn't think twice about opening the cover if it was out of warranty. Did you buy it locally? Maybe take it back and see if they will exchange it for another one or possibly even a 3806 if they don't have any 3805s left.
