First, thanks for taking the time to review my situation. Second, I am in a bit of a bind. I have an Onkyo S5100 HTiB (7.1 Surround) arriving mid-week. I need to figure out where to place these speakers, and run the wire. I have roughed in the locations of the front speakers (thanks to the dolby room guide).

So, (if the attachment is available) please review and give me some suggestions. I think all of the elements are well labeled. I cannot mount on the stairs, as it is just rails, no drywall. The only places to mount speakers are on the front, left, and back walls. The couch is sitting ~ 1 foot from the back wall. Ceiling is fair game for mounting as well.

As for running cable, I'd ideally like to run it through the ceiling, but would like some help/ advice. I have a cement sub-floor, and hardwood on the cement... so ground pulls are out.

Should I put the lb, rb facing the ceiling behind the couch? Where should the left surround/ right surround get mounted?

I'll post pictures, if you all like. Each box, on the attachment is 1 foot.

Thanks all. And let me know if you're in the MD area and I can coax you into helping me out.

Hi there,

Here is what Dolby suggests for 7.1 speaker placement
see: dolby.com/consumer/home_entertainment/roomlayout2

(no permission to post links yet)

Your main problem is that your couch is to close to the rear wall.
