Speaker placement suggestions wanted in diagonal room setup?

Just looking for suggestions -- I'm about to set up a drop-down screen and projector in my living room, and it will have to be arranged diagonally in the room, here's the idea:

Can't move the screen, so I want the best speaker placement I can get, given the limits of the seating and screen... I'm doing 5.1 sound. In this diagram, the surround speakers are in the corners of the room on shelves, which is actually on either side of the two sofas, pointed towards the seating. Is this the best placement for the situation? I thought of putting the surrounds maybe more towards the middle of the walls that have the sofas, but they'd have to be up near the ceiling then because one wall has a window, so that speaker would have to be above it. Any thoughts or suggestions are more than welcome! Thanks.

What your planning may be the best you get with 5.1. If you can try the speakers in different positions and see what you like. I know you said 5.1 but is there any chance you could add an extra speaker or two for a 6.1 or 7.1 and put them near the back? I think that might be your best bet overall.

That's probably about the best you can do. My sister's living room is near identical but we put the right surround on the wall where your diagram has the word shelf.

It's actually fairly good for movies although there is a difference depending on where you are seated. Your placement I think would be a tad better. The best seat in the house, sound wise, is the corner seat where the two sofas meet.
